For over 25 years Jon English has been enchanting audiences with his many performances in a wide variety of musical genres. Mr. English has sung with a number of Opera Companies: Oswego Opera, The Rochester Opera Theatre, The Opera Theatre of Syracuse, the Chautauqua Opera Theatre, and the Monadnock Music Festival. Mr. English is also a frequent Orchestral performer, and has sung with the Boston Symphony, The Boston Pops, Boston's Cantata Singers, the Syracuse Symphony, the Pennsylvania Sinfonia, the Rochester Philharmonic, the Chautauqua Symphony Orchestra, among others. He has worked with conductors such as Segii Ozawa, Keith Lockhart, John Williams, David Hoose, Juan LaManna, Isaiah Jackson, David Zinmann, Alfred Mann and David Effron. As a recitalist, Mr. English has sung both here in the United States as well as in Europe. He has received critical acclaim for his early music performances. It has been his good fortune to work with leaders in the Early Music field, such as the renowned lutanist Paul Odette, harpsichordist Arthur Haas, and Organist James David Chrisite. His interpretations of the Classic and Romantic periods have also been praised. Mr. English founded the Hugo Wolf Concert Series in Boston, MA, and organized and led performances of the composer's Morike Songbook (the entire collection), and The Spanish Songbook. He has performed Robert Schumann's song cycle Dichterliebe dozens of times in concert, as well as songs of Mendelssohn, Beethoven, Marx and Strauss. He was asked to perform a program of Schubert Songs for the Governor of Steiermark in Graz, Austria. Mr. English is especially proud of his long association with composers and new music. This is a passion which began while a student at The Eastman School of Music, in Rochester, New York, and has been a constant theme throughout his career. He has premiered works by composers such as Samuel Adler, Steven Albert, Denise Bacon, Warren Benson, Sydney Hodkinson, Daniel Pinkham, Stanley Walden, Nava Piatka, Bevan Manson and many others. This past few season he has premiered a number of pieces written especially for him by Charles Turner and John Andrew Ross.
